In response to the growing political tensions in Serbia, the European Union has issued a strong call for restraint and constructive dialogue. Concerns were raised regarding the initiation of criminal proceedings against the Rector of the University of Belgrade, as well as the recent blockade of the public broadcaster RTS. Emphasis was placed on the role of public media to operate in the public interest and to provide space for all legitimate viewpoints, free from political pressure or interference. The EU has reiterated its support for Serbia’s democratic development, underlining that progress on the country’s European path depends on credible reforms in the rule of law and anti-corruption, alongside the promotion of media pluralism. Special attention was drawn to the need for a transparent and inclusive process in electing members of Serbia’s Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media, with the participation of all relevant stakeholders.
