The study “Civic Engagement 2024” by BCSDN’s member Macedonian Centre for International Cooperation (MCIC) reveals important findings about citizens’ participation in various forms of association, non-partisan political activities, and volunteering, as well as the reasons for (non)involvement and motivation for civic engagement in North Macedonia. Nearly half of the citizens do not know which forms of association would contribute to their needs. Among those who answered affirmatively, the largest group (23.1%) believe that churches and religious communities are the form of association that best supports their needs. In contrast, political parties are the least chosen by respondents (5.3%). The findings also highlight a persistent lack of awareness about opportunities for civic participation, suggesting a need for better communication and outreach by CSOs. While volunteering remains a recognized form of engagement, many citizens cite a lack of trust, limited free time, or unclear impact as reasons for their non-involvement.
