The Serbian government has abolished the Office for Cooperation with the Civil Society, which has existed for the last 10 years seeking to improve the enabling environment for civil society development. This decision has alerted Serbian CSOs who were already conscious of the deterioration of the civil society enabling environment in their state. Over 70 Serbian CSOs, initiated by BCSDN member Civic Initiatives, have signed a Statement demanding the Serbian government to ensure sufficient resources and mechanisms to enable dialogue and cooperation between civil society and the authorities. In light of these events, BCSDN supports and encourages the Serbian CSOs to carry on their efforts to promote a more enabling civil society environment, the civic space, and participatory democracy in Serbia.
