On November 8th-9th, the Macedonian TACSO office and TACSO resource center by MCIC held a conference “The potential of state funding for the sustainability” of CSOs in Mavrovo, Macedonia. The conference gathered twenty-nine CSOs’ representatives from different areas of operation and eleven representatives from government bodies and institutions that distribute funds. The aim of the conference was to contribute to the discussion about the needs for improving the system for state funding of CSOs in Macedonia, but also to map the challenges CSOs face with regards to state funding. The conclusions point to a confusion and inconsistency, since there is an impression that large amounts of financial support are provided to CSOs; inadequate amount of funds allocated for CSOs; the lottery proceeds are the prime source of state funding for CSOs, but they are allocated to several predetermined CSOs.
