The Global Standard CSO Accountability Local Stakeholder Meetings took place on the 19th of July in the Human Rights House in Belgrade, Serbia.  It was organized by BCSDN and the INGO Accountability Charter in the scope of the Global Standard for CSO Accountability project and was hosted by Civic Initiatives. CSO representatives from the Global Standard initiative coming from Australia, Cambodia, Germany, India, Uganda, Uruguay, and USA presented the Standard along with some of their experience in their countries giving various examples of shrinking space for civil society around the world. BCSDN presented the CSO’s environment in the Balkan region esp. with the focus of transparency and accountability and where and how can this Standard fit in. Civic Initiatives on the other hand gave a more detailed overview of their efforts in this field and the situation in Serbia.

The discussion with around 20 local CSOs revolved around the use of a self-regulatory mechanism, the necessity of such a tool in our region and especially in Serbia. The initiative was welcomed by the participants and a great interest came from organizations that work in different sectors in Serbia.
