How to Successfully Survive the Transition from Pre-Accession Financing to Structural and Cohesion Funds of the EU – Conference held in Zagreb

IMG_2316The Conference organized in Zagreb on the 27 March served as a final event for the Europe for Citizens project lead by Cenzura Plus and focused on the current situation of Croatia, which is to become a part of the EU in less than 4 months, and taking into account that Croatian civil society is experiencing difficulties in the EU funding, partly due to the lack of the administrative efficiency of the domestic contracting bodies for the decentralized EU funds. The meeting also served as a presentation of the BCSDN regional project and the activities that will be undertaken in Croatia in the scope of the “Balkan Civil Society Acquis – Strengthening the Advocacy and Monitoring Potential and Capacities of CSOs”.

A large number of representatives from public institutions which are responsible for coordination, managing and implementation of the IPA Programme, as well as for new programming period 2013 – 2020, then also civil society organizations from Croatia and EU member states, independent consultants and all other interested parties, took part at the Conference. The aim was to analyze successes in implementation of IPA programme in Croatia and how to overcome difficulties that CSOs are facing, especially in transitional period from Pre-Accession financing to Structural and Cohesion Funds. Good and bad experiences in member states of the EU (UK, Poland, Bulgaria and Slovenia) in managing and absorption of Structural and Cohesion Funds were also presented.

The Conference will result with recommendations on how to overcome difficulties and who to prepare the best for upcoming period, both from position of the state administration and civil society organizations.More information will be available here.
