ALDA, the Association of Local Democracy Agencies is a CSO dedicated to the promotion of good governance and citizen participation at the local level. ALDA in particular focuses on activities that facilitate cooperation between local authorities and civil society. Having extensive experience in Central and Eastern Europe, ALDA has been active in the Neibourhood regions as well, using the gained experiences from the Balkans in the democratization processes, first in the Eastern regions and now turning towards the MED areas. A special role in these years has been played by the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia, that hosted (June 7 and 8) in Udine, besides the annual general meeting 2012 of ALDA, also the international conference on “Strengthening the role of citizens and local governance in the neighboring countries”.
Ilina Nesik represented BCSDN at the conference, where the lessons learned from working with the European Commission in the enlargement were presented in light with the new created policies of the EC for the Neighborhood. Antonella Valmorbida, Director of ALDA, closing the conference has anticipated the contents of a final document that expresses the recommendations of the conference, indicating the need to continue the work in the neighboring countries to create a stable democracy and respect for rights human, as an indispensable instrument for their stabilization and as an element of peace and prosperity for the whole Europe.
